GENIUS Olympiad Events
Ice-Breaker Activities

To help students from around the world connect, collaborate, and feel at home from the moment they arrive, GENIUS Olympiad hosts a high-energy Ice-Breaker event featuring large-scale inflatable attractions, team challenges, and a friendly football (soccer) tournament. This kickoff experience brings excitement, laughter, and community spirit to start the week on a positive note.

Participants will enjoy 4–5 giant inflatable activities designed to foster teamwork and friendly competition. These attractions create an inclusive environment where students can meet peers across disciplines, countries, and cultures.

Wrecking Ball Arena

A thrilling balance and coordination challenge where four players stand on pedestals and try to avoid a swinging inflatable wrecking ball. It’s fast-paced, fun, and guaranteed to spark new friendships.

Meltdown Zone

A rotating arm sweeps across the arena as participants jump or duck to stay in the game. Quick reflexes and nonstop energy make this one of the most exciting group activities at the event.

Mechanical Ball Ride

A safe, inflatable take on a mechanical challenge. Participants test their timing and balance as they try to hold on longer than their peers.

Giant Racing Obstacle Courses

From climbing walls to tunnels and speed runs, these massive obstacle courses bring out everyone’s adventurous side. Students challenge themselves—and each other—while creating unforgettable shared moments.

Football (Soccer) Tournament

In addition to inflatable attractions, GENIUS Olympiad will host a small-team football (soccer) tournament.

  • Teams of five players will be formed on-site.
  • Each match will last 10 minutes, keeping the pace fast and engaging.
  • Teams will compete in a bracket-style format until a tournament champion is crowned.

This friendly competition gives students another great opportunity to bond, collaborate, and enjoy global teamwork through sport.

Niagara Falls Park Visit

As part of the GENIUS Olympiad experience, participants will have the opportunity to visit one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders—Niagara Falls. This unforgettable excursion offers students a chance to explore the breathtaking power of nature, connect with peers, and enjoy a refreshing break from competition activities. This is a 90-minute bus trip from the university to the park.

Discover Niagara Falls State Park
  • Stunning views of the American and Horseshoe Falls
  • Photo opportunities at world-famous viewpoints
  • Time to relax, sightsee, and experience the natural beauty of the region

This educational and recreational visit helps students appreciate both environmental science and the environmental themes central to GENIUS Olympiad.

Maid of the Mist Boat Tour

A highlight of the trip is the legendary Maid of the Mist boat tour. Operating since 1846, this unforgettable ride brings participants right to the base of the roaring Horseshoe Falls.

Students will experience:

  • A close-up encounter with the immense power and mist of the falls
  • A dramatic, 360-degree view of one of the world’s most famous natural landmarks
  • A memorable shared adventure with international peers

Participants will receive ponchos, but be prepared—you will get wet, which is part of the fun!

Walden Galleria Mall Shopping Stop

On the return trip from Niagara Falls, participants will stop at Walden Galleria Mall, offering a wide variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

Students will have the chance to visit:

  • Large brand-name stores and specialty shops
  • The popular Apple Store
  • Multiple fashion, tech, lifestyle, and gift retailers

Walden Galleria provides a comfortable, fun environment where students can unwind, purchase souvenirs, explore U.S. retail culture, and enjoy free time with new friends before heading back to campus. Participants are expected to have their dinner at the mall.
